“Throughout my career, I have seen data science projects succeed — and I’ve seen them fail. Udacity’s Data Science for Business Leaders Executive Program will help guide business leaders toward building successful artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data initiatives.” Ed Wiley
Program Instructor & Senior AI and Data Science Executive

Prerequisite knowledge

To optimize your chances of success in this Executive Program, we recommend prior exposure to statistics and probability, as well as experience in business decision-making in an IT or technical environment.

This program is intended for students who have spent time in a business setting, had exposure to business decision making, and have potentially worked on technical or IT projects.

In addition, a well-prepared learner will have:

  • Basic Statistics (Able to calculate the mean, median, and mode from a data set)
  • Prior exposure to statistics and probability in an academic or professional setting

Introduction to Data Science

Businesses often suspect that they want Data Science capabilities, and may even sense a need for Data Science capabilities, but many are not sure where to start. Learn exactly what Data Science is, who Data Scientists are, and what’s possible through Data Science.

Business Case for Data Science

Creating a data science strategy isn’t a standalone activity; it must be driven by a business’s overarching operations and strategy. This course will cover how to articulate a business’s strategic objectives and identify opportunities for data science-based transformation, a critical starting point for any data strategy.

Human Capital of Data Science

The human capital component of Data Science is critical to delivering on a data science strategy. Learn how

to recruit, hire, and train for a Data Science organization, and how to structure that organization in order to deliver value to the business. Asses ways to leverage data and data science to foster a data-driven culture throughout the business.

Data and Machine Learning Infrastructure Strategy

Technology needs are specific to each business; they depend on the types of data to be leveraged for Data Science, the form and magnitude of that data, the types of data science models that a business plans to create, and the overall scale of operations represented by those data science models. This lesson investigates the parameters that must be considered both in creating a Data Architecture Strategy and in building a Machine Learning Architecture to support Data Science initiatives.

CAPSTONE PROJECT – Build a 100-Day Data Plan

Draw on all of the skills learned throughout the lessons to create a Data Science strategy that drives transformation in the business during your first 100 days.

Project – Project Details

Upon assuming a new leadership role within a company, it is common for an executive to be asked to prepare a plan for their first 100 days on the job. The Capstone Project asks students to prepare that 100-day data science plan for a company of their choosing; this could be the student’s current company, some other existing company, or a fictitious business context provided.

As part of this project, you will build a Human Capital plan for the data science organization as well as a Technical plan, including Data and Machine Learning Architecture. You’ll identify six data science opportunities for the organization, and create a roadmap for executing these six data science opportunities.

You’ll articulate your findings in a presentation to the CEO of the company, detailing your plan and the rationale behind your decisions.

Data-driven organizations are 23 times more likely to acquire customers. (McKinsey)
